Picking Up Steam

OK, things are starting to get set in motion in what will ultimately be a very long training year. Some people say this is crazy, others doubt you can train into November in Chicago but hell who knows how much longer you have to do anything before stuff changes so why not go for it now. That is the way I have always looked at things, no regrets. Immediately after finishing Lousiville I knew I wanted to do another Ironman some day but the cards were probably not going to line up for 2010, well things have changed.

In order to keep the training fresh this year and since the A race won't be until November of 2010, Rick and I have decided to add in a few little extra challenges to break up the winter training plan as well as hopefully improve our fitness with something different.

First Challenge, swimming! I have joined a new masters class and it is a whole new ballgame. I have options of swimming on four different days, 90 instead of 60 minute sessions which means more yardage and hopefully an improved effecient stroke. On top of that Rick and I have developed our own little challenge. The idea is to increase the number of 100's while decreasing the interval, we will see how this goes.

Here is the format:
December: 50 x 100's on the 2:00
January: 60 x 100's on the TBD
February: 70 x 100's on the TBD
March: 80 x 100's on the TBD
April: 90 x 100's on the TBD
May: 100 x 100's on the TBD

I think this will give you an indication of how things are progressing.

We have come up with our own modified Slowtwitch running challenge for the month of December and April as well which I will layout in the next post.

Should be a fun year!
